Lady writing on Laptop

Do you love to write? Do you want to get paid to write?

You don’t have to be a published author or have an English degree to learn how to make money by writing online. There are many websites that will allow you to write and publish content on their site – or sell your content to a client.

1. Listverse

Are you good at making lists? Not just grocery lists, but lists of interesting facts. This website will pay you to come up with an interesting article of the TOP 10 (you fill in the blank) For example: Top 10 Women Serial Killers, etc…

You will need your Top 10 list to get started. Then, just head to their SUBMISSIONS page, fill in the information and wait for a response. It’s really easy to submit you work.

A few tips: you should have at least 1-2 paragraphs for each item on your Top 10 list and cite reputable sources.

You HAVE to have a PayPal Account. They will NOT consider your work without one. (But creating one is free and easy.)

If you get accepted, they pay $100/article. It’s one of the highest payouts you can receive for little work. Don’t get me wrong, you have to put effort into your research, but if you can submit 4-5 articles a month, that’s some great pocket change!

College Humor is always looking for articles, and as the title suggests, they should to be funny. This can range from satire, political memes, to simply sarcastic tones. Its goal is to deliver the truth with a little humor.

Getting Stated

To get started, you will need to email them your ‘pitch’ for an idea. Once approved, they will ask you to go ahead and write your article. Once accepted, they will pay you $35 for a single article, or $50 for a multi-page article.

Hubpages is similar to a hosting site. It’s not the same as having your own Blog, but more of a writer’s portfolio within their context. They will allow you to write about almost anything! You can really get creative here. (But you still have to get it approved.)

The catch – you will need Google AdSense and you get paid primarily through promoting the work yourself.

Getting Started

It’s really easy to sign up and create an account with Hubpages. Once you have your ‘writer’s space’ you submit your articles. Each article should be 700+ words in length and then you just sit back and wait for approval.

This is a very competitive writing site, but if you can create a good review you can be paid $50/article. They are looking for advice on your personal experience as a contractor or business owner.

Getting Started

It’s easy to submit an article for review, but they want each submission to be 1500-3000 words in length. Also, they only have room for 1 guest article every 2 months, so your competition is fierce! But, if you can write about advice and tips on business related ideas, you have a good shot!

Contena is also a very competitive writing market. They are not always hiring writers, but if you fill out your information, they will text you once a job opens up. It’s a great company with good reviews. It’s hard to get in, but once you’re in it can be a great opportunity.

Contena does have a membership fee to be able to join and access their jobs.

Blogmutt is a company that other websites use to build content on their websites. Companies hire Blogmutt – Blogmutt hires writers. See my FULL REVIEW HERE.

Getting Started

It’s fairly easy to get started with Blogmutt. You fill out your submission form and then submit a sentence based on their qualifications related to a grammatical rule. Once you are approved, you can start writing for specific companies per their requirements.

If your article is approved, they pay you $8. The articles are generally around 250 words, so they payout isn’t bad for the length of each article.

Iwriter is very similar to Blogmutt, but their payout is dependent on their client’s needs and your experience with the site. You get paid anywhere from $1 – $50 per article.

Starting out, you can only accept jobs on the lower payout scale, but as you build your reputation you can make decent money if you can produce high quality articles for top paying clients.

  1. This is great information for extra income.

Great list. I’d be careful of writing for BlogMutt though. I worked with them for over a year, only to discover they had deactivated my account without reason. Normally, I wouldn’t care. However, I had over $1,000 worth of unsold posts in clients’ queues, all of which is now gone.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I really appreciate it! I have used Blogmutt for years and have never experienced that! Granted, I use it sparingly. Thanks for the warning. I’m sure you’ve tried contacting them already, but I would stay on top of that and send emails daily – as well as post your concerns to their social media accounts…you will probably get their attention faster that way. I hope you can solve this issue. Keep me updated!
